Shortly before 5:50 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 28, troopers from the Maryland State Police Forestville Barrack were called to the intersection of Central Avenue and Enterprise Road in Bowie, where there was a report of a pedestrian that had been struck in the roadway by a passing Hyundai.

The pedestrian - who has not been positively identified, according to police - was treated at the scene and transported by paramedics to the University of Maryland Capital Region Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead.

According to officials, the driver of the Hyundai and a child were both transported to Anne Arundel Medical Center for treatment of undisclosed injuries.

The investigation determined that impaired driving was not a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation by the Maryland State Police Crash Team.

Officials noted that the roadway was closed for several hours until it reopened at approximately 9 p.m. on Wednesday night following the fatal crash.
